Cable Runs & Conduit for Off-Grid Smart Locks
Half of off-grid maintenance is chasing squirrels and sunlight.
1) Conduit Material
- Use liquid-tight flex (UL LFMC) for exterior runs; UV-rated PVC for buried sections.
- Avoid cheap split loom tubing — it crumbles under UV.
2) Rodent Resistance
- Metal conduit or braided sleeving over cable exits.
- Steel mesh straps on door bottom routes.
3) Routing Best Practices
- Leave service loop at both ends (15 cm min).
- Drip loop before panel entry; seal with gland (Post 4).
- Keep signal and power lines separated by 2 inches min.
4) Label Everything
Weatherproof tags at each junction box. Future-you will thank past-you in snow season.
A good conduit plan is like a good storyline — no loose ends and no surprises.
