Cold/Heat Micro-Adjustments for Tiny-House Smart Locks
Small volume = fast temperature swings. Tune for both ends of the thermometer.
1) Winter Micro-Tune
- Strike depth: back off 0.5–1 mm to reduce bind on cold mornings.
- Lubricant: PTFE/silicone rated to −40 °C on latch faces; avoid thick oils.
- Battery: lithium AAs or indoor-mounted 12→5 V buck; keep cells warm side of door.
2) Summer Micro-Tune
- Retorque screws after first heat wave; plastics relax in sun.
- Dim keypad brightness; heat-soaked housings draw curious insects (and power).
- Vent enclosed boxes with breathable membranes to prevent outgassing fog.
3) Fast Swing Protocol
- After big HVAC changes (heater on/off, AC blast), cycle lock 3× and listen for scrape; adjust strike if needed.
- Door material matters: wood moves most, composite/metal less — schedule checks accordingly.
4) Power Budget Nudges
- Winter design to worst sun hours; summer reduce idle features.
- Keep buck converters near the lock to minimize voltage drop during motor start.
Treat alignment as a seasonally-adjusted setting. Two minutes of tuning beats months of annoyance.
