Serviceability in Tight Tiny-House Interiors
If it takes more than five minutes to service, you over-engineered the wrong part.
1) Quick-Disconnect Inside the Door
- XT30/Micro-Fit style, keyed, labeled on both sides (+12V/GND or 5V/GND).
- Service loop: 10–15 cm extra cable with strain relief.
2) One-Tool Panels
- Unify fasteners (e.g., 2.5 mm hex everywhere).
- Keep a spare screw taped inside the cavity.
3) Ferrules & Termination Discipline
- Ferrules on all screw terminals; no frayed strands.
- Heat-shrink over splices; no exposed copper.
4) Documentation That Lives With the Door
- 3×5 card: wiring path, fuse rating, connector type, last service date.
- QR code to your local copy of install notes (works offline).
5) Post-Service Test
- 10 lock/unlock cycles. Listen for new noises.
- Torque-mark screw heads for visual drift checks.
Design for future you, at 11 pm, with a headlamp. That's serviceability.
