Tiny-House Community Access Playbook: Guests, Trades & Codes
Small communities need big clarity. Make access boring and predictable.
Roles & Windows
- Residents: master PIN + mechanical key; rotate master quarterly.
- Guests: time-boxed PIN (arrival→checkout) with auto-expiry.
- Trades: single-day PINs; owner present or same-day verification.
Code Hygiene
- Avoid patterns/reuse. Randomize non-adjacent digits.
- Delete codes immediately after use; audit monthly.
- Dim LEDs, mute beeps at night; neighbors are close.
Entry Protocol
- Tap-to-wake → enter code → lock after entry (always).
- Residents log issues on a shared card in the service panel.
- Emergency override: mechanical key in a separate, discreet lockbox.
Shared Infrastructure Notes
- If using a shared 12 V or AC line, fuse each unit locally; label circuits.
- No cloud requirement—ensure keypad works fully offline.
Paper Backup
- Printed quick-start: how to unlock/lock, support contact, house rules.
- Quarterly review with residents; rotate master PINs and test keys.
Good habits are the best security upgrade. Keep it simple; enforce it consistently.
