Weather Sealing for Vanlife Sliding & Barn Doors
Dust is the enemy, water is the accomplice. Seal both.
1) Gasket Strategy
- Closed-cell EPDM around escutcheons; avoid open-cell foam that drinks water.
- Continuous perimeter cuts; no seams at corners.
2) IP-Rated Cable Entries
- Use IP67 glands; tighten to spec, not until crying.
- Drip loop before the gland so water runs away.
3) Sliding Door Specifics
- Keep hardware clear of the slide path; protect with a low-profile hood.
- Dust skirts near lower tracks; clean track drains every trip.
4) Rear Barn Door Notes
- Cross-wind rain hits here first. Add a small drip cap above keypad.
- Seal overlapping leaf gap with OEM-style bulb seal to reduce dust vortex.
5) Wash-Down Cautions
- No pressure washer at close range; mist only near electronics.
- Dry and inspect after washes; re-torque if gaskets settle.
Seal for storms, design for dust. If the track is clean, the lock lives longer.
